Draft Local Plan - Supplementary Consultation

Representation ID: 8440

Received: 14/03/2019

Respondent: Nick Ager

Representation Summary:

Should not be allocated as it is valuable attractive green belt with a wide range of wildlife habitats. There is insufficient road capacity to cope with further significant development in this area of Knowle. Development would damage the character of the village and be out of keeping with the rural setting.
Site is some distance from Dorridge railway station. Any development in this area should be south of the site close to the existing Middlefield development and away from Warwick Road. Access points to Warwick Road dangerous. I do not believe that Arden Academy needs to be relocated.

This land should not be allocated as it is valuable attractive green belt with a wide range of wildlife habitats. Deer, buzzards, badgers and foxes all inhabit this area. There is insufficient road capacity to cope with further significant development in this area of Knowle. The roads are already heavily congested and any further development will exacerbate this. Development here would damage the character of the village and be out of keeping with the rural setting.
The site is also some distance from regular public transport, particularly Dorridge railway station. It would be far more sustainable to have significant housing development in Dorridge.
Any development in this area should be to the south of the site close to the existing Middlefield development and away from Warwick Road, which provides the most attractive countryside and due to the topography can be seen for miles around. The suggested access points from Warwick Road would also be very dangerous given the speeds, incline and turns on Stripes Hill.
I do not believe that Arden Academy needs to be relocated. Many of the existing buildings are relatively new. It would be relatively straightforward to redevelop/refurbish parts of the existing site. The facilities proposed for a new site are unnecessary for the size of Knowle.
